preston asked Can anyone help with a 12 volt relay?
I have a 2007 chevy cobalt ls. I have a 12 volt relay and I'm using it to hook up a stereo which needs a constant 12 volt power source. I'm trying to tap into a fuse and run a constant source of power to my relay. How many amps can go into a 12 volt relay and what fuse should I tap into to get the supply?
And got the following answer:
WHy are you using a relay? That's just adding a component that is unneeded. Most stereos need two power inputs. A constant input for the memory and a switched input for the power. The power source is from the car's ignition so the stereo will only power up when the car's ignition is on. The memory power is taken from a point on the fuse block that is directly from the battery (NOT through the ignition) so that the program is not lost so long as the battery is good. A relay just complicates the system and is another source for problems.
