forddude1991 asked Does starting A diesel Engine multiple times a day hurt it ?
i drive around town go to different places, and probably turn off and on my 7.3l powertroke diesel 10 time a day. today when starting it the last 3 times, it made a weird sound like a click sound while having the key turned, while it was turning over.. is this normal ? thanks
And got the following answer:
I experienced a clicking sound from my diesel when stating it hot, I initially thought it was going to be an issue with the battery or leads only to find that the glow plug/preheat timer/relay (which apparently draws quite a bit of current) was making the noise. I found that it was not uncommon for this relay to make this noise if the motor is already hot when you try to start it.
