My blower motor works fine when the AC is off, but when I turn it to cool from off, the furnace stops blowing and starts clicking. I recently changed the capacitor and am wondering if that could be part of the problem. I also just put in a digital thermostate from the originial dial type thermostat Someone said that the time delay board was messing things up and I didnt need it, could it be something else? If not, how can I remove the time delay board.
And got the following answer:
well first off you did what i would of done which is to change the t stat. the t stat is what sends the electrical signals to contactors or relays which are electrical mechanical devices that close to pass electricity on to the blower when a signal is sent to them which comes from the t stat. i bet it is a contactor or relay this is what the clicking is coming from. first off a contactor is a bigger version of a relay they are the same thing. now how do they work. first off your t stat sends out a 24 or low voltage. your furnace is 120 volts. now a relay has a coil of wire. when 24 volts is sent to this coil it sends out a magnetic field. now with that magnetic field two metal pieces or contacts close passing the 120 volts through making the blower and other things come on. the contacts are metal and when they close they make a click sound. so you are hearing clicking so it is probaly the blower relay that has gone bad. listen for the clicking and track it down and replace it and this should fix the problem if it doesnt then the wiring is messed up from the t stat to the components
