i am looking for a relay for my lights on my fourwheeler. basically i have a 12volt wire going to the factory lights. i want my aftermarket lights to come on only when my high beams are on. so i want to run a relay that would be switched by the high beam wire and would automatically complete the circuit to my aftermarket lights, which are wired directly from the battery. i dont know much about the amperages, etc, but i know the aftermarket lights have a 30amp fuse inline. so basically i just need a relay that when its getting power it completes the circuit, and when it loses power it disconnects the circuit. i would prefer it to be waterproof and a stand alone type of thing. aka soderless connector and heatshrink connections.. or even something that held the wire by a screw.. similar to what you would find on the bottom of a simple toggle switch. seems like it should be a simple relay to me. can you point me to one please? thanks!!!!! ive been running this setup for at least a couple years now. the alternator has been fine. id just like to eliminate a manual switch. thanks for the heads up about taxing the alternator though.

very very simple go to a scrap yard or electric retailer and ask for a four pin relay as you must know a relay is just a big heavy duty switch this will not affect your alternator a bit more output but they are not going to be on 24 7 most relays have a in printed wiring diagram on the top to see how it works your new lights will probably be 65 watts + first you need a good Clean earth then a good 12v feed with a 30 amp fuse close to where you took your feed from battery etc then one wire to your new lamps and one wire from your high beam which you can probe for with a 12v test light at your head lights when on full beam this can be done in the car or under the hood so when you put full beam on the exiter wire full beam wire will pull in the electro magnet in the relay making contact with the new battery wire and new circut to your new lights
