Okay so i got a 2001 ML320 with the stock fog light's empty. In case you dont know this model mercedes has integrated fog light's in the headlamps, but come unequipped from mercedes because it it mounted too high to be a fog light and is "illegal". So I decided to use some hella 500's but i really dont want to wire em up with the provided kit since its cheap and ugly. My question is can i somehow connect the hella 500 wire's to my power source for where the h3 fog bulb usually gets put in/get's power? The power rating from the socket is 12v 55watt's. Will that be enough? As you can tell i suck at electronic work and really don't know my way around lol.... TIA
And got the following answer:
If the wiring was provided for by Merc, I assume it has the proper relay rated 2x55W and fuses, which would be fine. Check also the logical part - find out what are the conditions that power the circuit (eg position lights, low beams) and if those are legal in your area - if not, this may be changed through the diagnostics software in some models. Take also care of the proper beam alignment (horizontal and vertical). Which leaves you with one problem - position and install the on/off switch which, I assume, is provided with a signal lamp. Choose a visible, yet safe position (some lever switches may be dangerous in case of accident) and connect it to the relay control circuit. I can't be more specific here, have the work done by a qualified auto electrician, for your and your car's safety's sake (fire hazard) - it can't cost a fortune.
