Explorer Guy asked How can I convert my turn signal and brake light into one?
My explorer has seperate turn signal and brake lights and does not have a trailer wiring harness plug so I started wiring it myself and been trying to figure out how I can make it so that the turn signal and brake light is one so it matches the trailer wiring setup. So that's my question I want to know how I can do that without buying a kit. Thank y'all! Thanks for the answers, I'll just buy a kit instead of risking shorting something or burning something up..
And got the following answer:
It will be pretty complicated. The main difference is the turn signal switch in the steering column. This is what seperates the front turn signal circuit from the rear circuit on a vehicle with brake/turn being the same bulb. On yours with the seperate rear signal bulb, your signal switch does not seperate the circuit from the front and rear (they are connected together) so what you want to do cannot be done. If your really good and want to go through all the trouble, you may be able to modify your existing signal switch, but I would doubt it. Buy the kit and be done with it. You could make your own using a few generic automotive relays that are dual-throw type (have a normally open and a normally closed contact, most have only the normally open contact). But by the time you go through the trouble of mounting and wiring them, the kit will be the better choice.
