Andrew asked Where to attach truck electrical wires?
Okay, so I am trying to add 4 off road lights to the roof of my 2000 ford ranger xlt. I already know how to build a mount and wire them throughout the car, but is it possible to solder the wires to an existing pair of fog lights on the botton of the front grill? That way there is already a switch in use. plus how do i calculate the fuse needed to prevent a blown system?
And got the following answer:
Your playing with fire here, you will soon find out what I mean. Off road driving lights I've used draw a little over eight amps each. You want four so the amp draw is about 32. That will require a number ten wire and a 40 amp relay. You can direct connect it to the battery with a 40 amp fuse and have the fog lights activate the relay, that would work but there is no way you can run the lights off the fog lights any other way nor will there be a connection in the fuse block for that big of a draw on top of what is already there. So you know about relays?
